Are you ready to make the most delicious and fun Rice Krispy Treats (or better known as Rice Bubble Treats here in Australia)? This recipe is simple to follow, and Iโll show you two different ways to decorate them for an extra special touch! Whether you're making these for a party, a special occasion, or just because you love a good treat, these Rice Krispy squares will be a hit.
-
85g Unsalted Butter
-
300g Rice Krispy Cereal (also known as Rice Bubbles in Australia)
-
250g Marshmallows
Decoration:
-
White Melting Chocolate Buttons
-
Pink Food Colouring (oil-based, not water-based)
-
Raspberry Crumble
-
Dark Melting Chocolate Buttons
-
Conversation Heart Candy
What You'll Need:
-
A large pot
-
20x20x5cm tray
-
Baking paper
-
A spatula
-
Small piping bag
-
Melt the Butter: In a large pot, melt the butter over medium-low heat until it becomes golden brown and toasty.
-
Melt the Marshmallows: Add the marshmallows to the melted butter and stir continuously until fully melted and smooth.
-
Mix with Rice Krispy Cereal: Once the marshmallow mixture is fully melted, turn off the heat and quickly pour in the Rice Krispy cereal. Stir well until all the cereal is evenly coated.
-
Prepare the Tray: Line a 20x20x5cm tray with baking paper. Be sure to do this neatly so your Rice Krispy treats come out clean and even.
-
Press into Tray: Pour the mixture into the prepared tray and use a rubber spatula to press it down evenly. If you find it sticky, lightly wet your hands with water (do not dry them) and use your palms to gently flatten the mixture. Be careful not to press too hardโthis will make the treats too dense and hard.
-
Chill: Place the tray in the fridge for about an hour to set.
-
Cut into Pieces: Once set, use a serrated knife to cut into squares. You can cut free-hand or use a ruler for precision.
Now that your Rice Krispy squares are ready, letโs decorate them in two delicious ways! You can split your batch in half to try both designs or pick your favorite.
Conversation Heart Design:
-
Melt White Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate buttons on medium heat in 20-second bursts, stirring in between until smooth.
-
Colour the Chocolate: Add pink food colouring and mix well until fully incorporated.
-
Drizzle with Piping Bag: Pour the pink-coloured chocolate into a small piping bag and snip the tip off.
-
Decorate: In a zigzag motion, drizzle the pink chocolate over each Rice Krispy square.
-
Top with Candy: Before the chocolate sets, place a Conversation Heart candy on top of each piece. Repeat for all squares.
Raspberry Chocolate Design:
-
Melt Dark Chocolate: Melt the dark chocolate buttons in the microwave on medium heat in 20-second bursts, stirring in between until completely melted and smooth.
-
Dip the Treats: Dip the top of each Rice Krispy square into the melted dark chocolate, allowing any excess to drip off.
-
Add Raspberry Crumble: Immediately sprinkle a generous pinch of freeze-dried raspberry crumble over the melted chocolate.
-
Set: Allow the chocolate to set before serving.
